Port Angeles: Symphony conductor Nico Snel dies of cancer

Nico Snel committed his life to music, and he brought passion and professionalism to the Port Angeles Symphony.

Fellow musicians, music lovers and the community are mourning the death of Mr. Snel, the symphony’s conductor for 18 years.

He lost his battle with cancer late Thursday night. He was 69.

Funeral services for Mr. Snel will be Thursday at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 591 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Only days before his death, Mr. Snel gave an interview to the Peninsula Daily News which was the cover story Friday in the newspaper’s Peninsula Spotlight entertainment magazine.
