The Port Angeles School Board on Monday night selected Feb. 8 as the date of the district’s next maintenance and operations levy election.
The amount of the four-year replacement levy will be set later.
To place the issue on the ballot in February, board members must submit a resolution to Clallam County officials by Dec. 23.
The two-year levy that is in place now will expire at the end of 2005.
District leaders say a levy is necessary because state and federal funding only provides about 86 percent of the operating funds for the district’s educational programs.
Levy dollars support basic and special education staffing and materials, technology, vocational equipment, facilities maintenance, student transportation and athletic, music and student activities.
