PORT ANGELES –Local postmaster Ron Gates has been named Washington state Postmaster of the Year.
Gates has served as Port Angeles postmaster since 1989 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 43 years.
Gates of Port Angeles said he was shocked to learn of his award Saturday prior to a National Association of Postmasters of the United States banquet in SeaTac.
“It was quite a shock,” he said Tuesday. “It is an honor to receive the award, and I really appreciate the fact that it came from my peers.”
The award included a certificate and $500.
