PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Lion Club member Gary Reidel recently was elected as chairman of the Council of Governors for Multiple District 19 of Lions Clubs International.
Reidel, a 46-year member of the club, officially assumed the role at the International Convention in Toronto, Ontario.
Multiple District 19 is composed of more than 12,500 members in 500 clubs in Washington, Idaho and British Columbia.
The district governor and the immediate past district governor will sit on the council of governors with Reidel as chair.
The district is part of Lions Clubs International and joins with more than 1 million members in 209 countries.
The Port Angeles Lions Club was chartered in 1942.
Since then, the Lions have built parks, picnic tables, wheelchair ramps and more.
They have raised more than $500,000 for the Port Angeles Food Bank in the past 38 years with their annual Food-a-Thon on KONP radio.
