Port Angeles interim city manager offered $12,000 monthly

PORT ANGELES — Jerry Osterman will receive a salary of $75 per hour as the Port Angeles interim city manager, if a proposed employment contract is approved on Tuesday.

The City Council will consider approval of the proposed contract at a meeting at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

If the proposed contract is approved, Osterman will be sworn in as city manager at the meeting, according to the agenda.

The City Council selected him as interim city manager on Thursday.

He competed against three other candidates for the job.

The proposed contract states that Osterman will receive a salary of $12,000 per month and a housing allowance of $1,000 per month.

Osterman had requested $70 per hour and $1,200 per month in living expenses.

City Human Resources Manager Bob Coons had predicted an interim city manager could cost as much as $95 per hour.

Osterman’s salary is slightly less than that of City Manager Mark Madsen, who finished his last week of work on Friday after tendering his resignation on July 9.

Madsen’s salary was $148,000 annually, or about $12,333 per month.

Madsen will be paid about $37,000 for resigning, as stated in his 2007 contract.

Madsen said he quit because of “untenable, hostile work conditions” created by certain City Council members toward him and the city staff.
