Port Angeles, Forks sites added to Wreaths Across America events

National nonprofit Wreaths Across America announced recently that Mt. Angeles Memorial Park in Port Angeles and Forks Cemetery are joining in the mission to “Remember, Honor, Teach” as official Wreaths Across America locations for 2022.

This is the first year that the two cemeteries will participate in this national program, local event organizers noted.

The Michael Trebert chapter of National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution is now in the third year of covering veteran markers with live balsam remembrance wreaths across the county.

The chapter started in Eastern Clallam County in 2020 by laying 400 wreaths at Sequim View Cemetery; in 2021, Michael Trebert Chapter added seven more Clallam County cemeteries, laying more than 970 live balsam Remembrance Wreaths.

Event organizers are seeking community members to help lay some of the 2,700 sponsored wreaths at six Clallam County cemeteries on Dec. 17: Blue Mountain, Dungeness, Gardiner, Sequim View, Mt. Angeles and Forks. The wreaths will be picked up Jan. 14 and recycled.

Each 22-inch live balsam wreath costs $15, or buyers can buy two and get the third free through the website: wreathsacrossamerica.org/WA0153.

National Wreaths Across America Day is a free community event open to all people.

Wreaths Across America, organizers say, started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about sacrifices made for citizens to live freely.
