Peninsula: Olympic National Park employee dies of injuries

KALALOCH — An Olympic National Park maintenance employee died Friday of head injuries sustained Oct. 5, the park announced Monday.

Daniel R. Green was found lying unconscious on the ground next to the cab of a park dump truck he had been operating in the Kalaloch area, and was presumed to have fallen, said Barb Maynes, public information officer for the park, in a written statement.

Green was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he remained until his death, she said.

No age or hometown for Green were available on Monday.

A National Park Service team is expected in the park today to begin an investigation into what may have caused Green’s injury.

“Doing everything we can to prevent another incident like this is one way we can honor Dan’s memory,” said Bill Laitner, park superintendent, in the statement.

In honor of Green, flags in all National Park Service areas throughout the six-state Pacific West Region will fly at half staff through sunset the day of interment, which has not been announced.
