Peninsula: Forks auction reaches $69,000 mark

FORKS — The Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction at Bank of America hit $69,000 Sunday night after 880 items were auctioned off over a busy weekend.

Auction officials were still tallying figures late Sunday night and official final figures were not available. The event raised $69,000 last year.

Personal services, arts and crafts, sports memorabilia, quilts and handmade toys were auctioned off over the weekend to raise dollars for scholars.

Money generated goes toward Forks High School and Quileute Tribal School graduates pursuing post-secondary education.

The scholarship auction is a private organization separate from Quillayute Valley School District.

The Bank of America lobby, 481 S. Forks Ave., was a “hopping place”‘ Sunday, and packed with people, said auction spokeswoman Ellen Metheny.

Hundreds of items were donated and items came in through the auction’s end.
