PORT TOWNSEND — Louisa Espinosa, a Peninsula Daily News subscriber from Aurora, Colo., is the winner of the Port Townsend Film Festival’s “Guess the Guest” contest.
Espinosa correctly guessed that Oscar and Emmy winner Cloris Leachman will be the celebrity guest at this year’s 10th annual Port Townsend Film Festival, scheduled Sept. 24-27.
Festival organizers announced the mystery guest and the winner of the contest Tuesday.
The Espinosas celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in Port Townsend last year. They took out a subscription to the PDN and decided to enter the contest while reading the limerick clues written by former Port Townsend resident Michael Thomsett.
The Espinosas are currently on a road trip and hope to arrive in Port Townsend in time for the festival next month.
If they do, they will receive an invitation for two to a private reception for Leachman after the screening of the 1971 film, “The Last Picture Show” — which features Leachman’s Oscar-winning performance as Ruth Popper — and have their photo taken with her.
The clues alluded to Leachman’s work in TV’s “Malcolm in the Middle,” cinema’s “History of the World, Part 1” and the movie version of “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
The Mel Brooks’ comedy-thriller “High Anxiety” (1977), features Leachman as Nurse Diesel. It will also be played as one of the free outdoor movies during the festival.
Leachman, 83, has worked in film and television for more than 60 years.
According to her personal Web site, she has won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, one Daytime Emmy Award and eight Primetime Emmy Awards.
