PORT HADLOCK — Two people were evacuated from a residence following a fire in a carport that extended into a home, East Jefferson Fire Rescue reported.
No injuries were reported, the fire district said in a press release.
The residents reported the structure fire on Hunt Road in Port Hadlock about 8 p.m. Saturday. Crews from East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) and Indian Island’s Navy Fire Station 91 responded and found a carport fully engulfed in flames, the press release stated.
Two of the windows on the house had already broken due to the intense heat from the fire, EJFR reported.
Firefighters used EJFR’s water tenders due to the isolated location and extinguished the fire before it could spread into the home, according to the press release.
Once dispatched, it took less than 5 1/2 minutes for the first firefighters to arrive, less than the district-wide standard of eight minutes, the fire district reported.
The case was undetermined due to the complete involvement of the contents and the structure, EJFR said. The residents noted several appliances were in use in the carport. Yard tools and related fuel also were stored in the carport, the fire district said.
