NEWS BRIEFS — SmileMobile to arrive in Chimacum in December . . . and other items

CHIMACUM — The Washington Dental Service Foundation SmileMobile is coming to the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, to care for children with dental needs.

The SmileMobile will provide examinations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Follow-up treatments are through Friday, Dec. 12.

The SmileMobile travels the state to offer dental services to children who might not otherwise have access to dental care.

Children birth through high school with limited access to dental care can be scheduled by calling the Washington Dental Service Foundation at 888-286-9105.

The SmileMobile is staffed by a clinic manager, dentist and dental assistant, and local volunteer dental professionals in each community it visits.

Medicaid (Apple Health) and a sliding-scale fee are accepted as reimbursement for services.

Field carrier landings set this week

COUPEVILLE — There will be field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island at the outlying field in Coupeville.

Training is scheduled from late morning into the early evening Monday and Tuesday.

Senior nutrition

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Senior Nutrition Site dinners will be served at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

A suggested donation is $5 for those who are 60 or older.

People younger than 60 can attend for $8.

Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance to 360-457-8921.

Menus are subject to change.

■ Tuesday: Fruit salad, cheeseburger with toppings, tater tots and apple pie.

■ Wednesday: Green salad, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, steamed rice and baked custard.

■ Thursday: Green salad, chicken paprika, buttered noodles, green beans and fruited Jell-O.

■ Friday: Tomato juice, scrambled eggs, waffles with strawberries, sausage links and cantaloupe.

Donations sought

SEQUIM — The city is accepting donations for the Sequim Food Bank at the Police Department and the city finance office, both at 609 W. Washington St.

Donations of nonperishable food items can be made through Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Business hours for the Police Department are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Business hours for the city finance office are from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The Volunteers in Police Service will be monitoring the containers and arranging delivery of the donations to the food bank.

City offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday.

Commission spot

PORT ANGELES — The city is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission.

The position is open until filled.

Members review and make recommendations to the City Council on land development actions including preparation of the city’s comprehensive plan.

The commission also may make recommendations to individual city departments for adoption of land-use controls.

Commissioners are appointed to four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms. The commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in council Chambers.
