PORT ANGELES – U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Norm Dicks will ceremonially open the “virtual” VA clinic at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Located at 1005 Georgiana St., the clinic is owned by Olympic Medical Center and leased to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for $1 a year.
Long sought by the 3,000 veterans enrolled for medical benefits who live on the North Olympic Peninsula, it will save trips for primary care to VA centers in Bremerton, Seattle or American Lake.
An estimated 14,000 veterans live in Clallam and Jefferson Counties.
Murray and Dicks supported the first-ever “virtual” clinic – so called because it uses another agency’s facilities – although the project largely was a local initiative led by OMC.
