LAKE SUTHERLAND — More sodden earth slid onto South Shore Road on Wednesday, but Clallam County road crews cleared the pavement by early afternoon.
The slide location was where a larger slide knocked out power to lakeshore residents west of Eyres Road for 10 hours on Monday and toppled an unoccupied summer cabin.
Wednesday’s slide carried trees that had been knocked over by high winds
The area very well might slide again, according to Don McInnes, Clallam County road engineer.
“It will continue for some time, until we get a nice dry spell,” he said.
In addition, several county roads have suffered cracks and collapses due to the wet winter weather.
They include Washington Street in Sekiu, the Hoko-Ozette Road and Crescent Beach Road — all in the county’s West End.
“I’m actually surprised and pleased that we don’t get more slides than we do,” McInnes said, referring to steep slopes that have been destabilized by logging and soaked with rain.
