Marijuana entrepreneurs! North Olympic Peninsula pot business applications surpass 100

Entrepreneurs from Clallam Bay to Brinnon have filed 108 business applications to grow, process or sell recreational marijuana under voter-approved Initiative 502.

Those applications include 28 proposed retail pot outlets in Clallam and Jefferson counties.

The state Liquor Control Board closed a 30-day window for filing marijuana business license applications Friday. An updated list of applicants was made public Tuesday.

More than 3,700 applications were filed statewide: 1,670 for growing, 1,209 for processing and 867 for selling cannabis.

The state plans to cap the number of retail shops at 334, so a lottery will be held to determine who gets a retail license and who doesn’t.

Clallam County will be allowed six pot shops: two in the city of Port Angeles, one in Sequim and three others anywhere else in the county.

Jefferson County will get four cannabis stores under Liquor Board rules: one in Port Townsend and three anywhere else in the county.

Liquor Board spokesman Brian Smith has said licenses will be issued in March, with pot stores likely opening statewide by June.

The state received 68 marijuana business applications from Clallam County entrepreneurs: 30 for growing, 20 for processing and 18 for selling legalized pot.

Forty applications were filed in Jefferson County by 14 growers, 16 processors and 10 retailers.

Some businesses submitted multiple applications. A few others listed an invalid address.

A single business can grow and process pot, but a marijuana retailer can only sell it.

A list of the 3,746 marijuana business license applications filed statewide is available at www.tinyurl.com/pdn-potlist.

Here’s a rundown of the applications for the North Olympic Peninsula, with one address listed for grower-producers.
