Lost mushroom hunter found safe

FORKS — A hunt for a mushroom hunter lost in the west Clallam County woods ended Friday when the man was found in remote forest land northwest of Forks.

Fidel C. Salazar, 25, went mushroom picking with two friends Thursday evening about 20 miles outside Forks off the Rayonier 5000 Mainline Road, according to a statement from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department.

Salazar was separated from his friends and after two hours of searching for him, Salazar’s friends called for help Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Deputies told 9-1-1 dispatchers in Port Angeles that Salazar had been found at 5:55 a.m.

The statement said search and rescue workers spent five hours searching.

Salazar’s hometown was not included in the statement and Sheriff Department officials said Saturday they didn’t know where he was from.
