Two dying old-growth fir trees that tower over power lines along U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Sutherland are being cut down this morning.
Asplundh Tree Expert Co. will use a 225-foot crane to cut down the trees, forcing the temporary closure of the highway.
The crane will take up one lane and its counterbalance will hang over the other while sections of the tree are cut. So U.S. 101 will be closed intermittently between mileposts 233 and 234.
Telephone and electrical service to about 21 Sutherland-are customers will be unavailable from about 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m..
Travel warnings will be posted on message boards and on highway advisory radio.
