Interim fair manager named after manager quits just days before 2008 Clallam County Fair

PORT ANGELES — Shari Ioffrida will put her experience as the Clallam County Fair’s special events assistant to work as the interim manager for the upcoming Clallam County Fair.

The four-day-long fair, which begins on Aug. 14, lost its fair manager, Kathy Roemer, last week.

Roemer left on Friday to take a job as events coordinator for the Highline Community College in Des Moines, said Joel Winborn, county Public Works parks and facilities division manager.

Ioffrida said the scheduling for the fair is nearly completed, but that a lot of little things still need to be finished.

“It’s going to be a mad dash to get everything else done,” she said.

A few examples are distributing the tables and Dumpsters around the fairgrounds, and handling last-minute phone calls from vendors, she said.

The fair manager position is a full-time job in the county Parks, Fair and Facilities Division.

County Public Works Director Craig Jacobs said Roemer provided the county with two-weeks notice, and that the county had been preparing for her departure.

Jacobs said Winborn and Bruce Giddens, parks supervisor, will assist Ioffrida.

Winborn, Giddens and Ioffrida “are very familiar with what needs to be done to start the fair on time,” Jacobs said.

“It will require more hours from all of them.”
