PORT ANGELES — the temporary bypass around the culvert under U.S. Highway 101 at Indian Creek was opened to traffic on Friday.
The culvert, just west of Herrick Road, will be replaced with a 180-foot concrete girder bridge.
The bridge is intended to improve fish passage for an 11-mile section of Indian Creek, a tributary of the Elwha River, according to a Department of Transportation press release.
Drivers can expect a reduced speed limit of 25 mph and a temporary signal to control alternating, single-lane traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by spring 2023.
