Hours cut for Forks forest service office

FORKS — A staffing shortage has led to limited hours for the Forks office of Olympic National Forest.

Dean Millett, district ranger, said the Forks office of the Pacific Ranger District will have limited hours beginning Monday, Sept. 23 and continuing for an undetermined length of time.

The office at 437 Tillicum Lane will be open to the public Fridays only from 10 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Firewood and special forest product permits will be available only during those hours.

The phone number for the office is 360-374-6528.

“I apologize for any inconvenience this causes the public,” Millett said.

The cutback is due to a staffing shortage, according to Susan Garner, spokesperson.

The Quinault office of the Pacific Ranger District will maintain regular business hours.

Current summer hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Quinault office is located at 353 South Shore Road, Quinault. The phone number is 360-288-2525.

Recreation information and map purchases are available at the Forks Chamber of Commerce office at 1411 S. Forks Ave.

The chamber can be reached at 360-374-2531.
