PORT ANGELES — A federal fugitive from Neah Bay was arrested in Port Angles on Thursday on a felony warrant for violating his probation.
Daniel W. Markishtum surrendered without incident at 1:57 p.m. in the 400 block of East Sixth Street after Port Angles police, Clallam County sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents surrounded the house where he was believed to be staying.
Port Angeles police obtained an arrest warrant after two plainclothes detectives spotted Markishtum in an alley behind the house. Police were tipped off by a green SUV believed to be Markishtum’s.
About a dozen law enforcement officers set up a perimeter around the house before Markishtum was arrested on the front lawn. Sixth Street was blocked off between Vine and Peabody streets.
“He responded to our directions to come out,” said Brian Smith, Port Angeles deputy chief of police.
Markishtum was taken to the Clallam County jail to be processed.
Smith said he was involved in a violent crime in the Port Angeles area several years ago, and will likely serve his time in a federal prison.
“He will be subject to a multiyear prison sentence based to the arrest today,” Smith said.
