Forks teenager dies in rollover collision

Officials: Driver lost control of vehicle

FORKS — A 16-year-old boy was killed in a traffic collision near Forks after he was ejected from the vehicle, which had rolled several times.

Garrett L. Dulin was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday night near milepost 21 of the Hoh Mainline south of Forks after aid units attempted life-saving measures on site, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 7 p.m. Saturday, the passenger — also a minor — called emergency services and reported that Dulin had been thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Dulin was driving backward at a high rate of speed and lost control of the 1999 Toyota pickup truck, causing it to roll several times.

Dunlin was unconscious when responders arrived and had suffered significant trauma from the collision, the sheriff’s office said.

Evidence at the scene indicated that Dulin was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the sheriff’s office.

The collision is still being investigated.

Drugs and alcohol have not been indicated as a factor so far, but blood test results are pending, the sheriff’s office said.
