Fire chars Glen Cove home

PORT TOWNSEND — A fire gutted a home in Glen Cove after the homeowner left the stove on, firefighters said.

None of the six people living in the home in the 300 block of Fredericks Street in Glen Cove was injured in the blaze, which was called in just before 6:50 p.m. Wednesday by residents, said Bill Beezley, public information officer for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

They lost everything in the fire but told fire officials they had a place to stay for the rest of Wednesday night, Beezley said.

The homeowner told fire officials he had been cooking French fries in a skillet, left the house to get something to eat and mistakenly left the stove on, according to Beezley.

“It was just human error,” Beezley said.

The cause was confirmed by the Jefferson County Fire Investigation Task Force.

The homeowner reported the fire after returning to find flames coming through the roof of the double-wide manufactured house.

Firefighters got the fire under control by 7:23 p.m., according to EJFR Deputy Chief Ted Krysinski.

However, by that time, the blaze already had gutted the home and garage, firefighters said.

Crews from EJFR, Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue and Naval Magazine Indian Island responded to the blaze.
