PORT ANGELES — Electrical power in downtown Port Angeles was off momentarily this afternoon after two eagles landed on parallel power lines and touched, killing both, said Sgt. Barbara McFall of the Port Angeles Police Department.
The eagles — a mature bird and a juvenile — were electrocuted, McFall said.
The two eagles apparently landed on side-by-side power lines at Third and Cedar streets, about one block up from Marine Drive, and touched each other, completing the electrical circuit a little after 6 p.m., McFall said.
The connection caused a power surge that blanked out lights and computers briefly.
McFall said that she thought power was restored to most customers almost immediately.
The dead eagles were turned over the to state Fish and Wildlife Department, she said.
