Concert on the Pier today in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The summer’s first performance in the Concerts on the Pier series is today.

Deadwood Revival — with clawhammer banjo man Jason Mogi, guitarist Kim Trenerry, fiddler Julie Campbell and Ches Ferguson on the ukulele bass — will step up at 6 p.m. and play until 8 p.m.

The annual Concerts on the Pier series — co-sponsored and co-hosted by the Peninsula Daily News — will offer free musical entertainment every Wednesday night on City Pier at the north end of Lincoln Street through Sept. 7.

Pick up produce

Music lovers also can pick up produce and a hot meal before the show: Today also marks the seasonal debut of an overlapping downtown event, the Wednesday Farmers Market.

About 15 vendors of produce, hot supper and other goods will be at The Gateway pavilion at Front and Lincoln streets from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Sept. 21.

The midweek market means shoppers and downtown strollers won’t have to wait for the weekend edition, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at The Gateway.

Dinner, 3 lasagnas

On the summer’s first day of the Wednesday market, the Port Angeles Farmers Market board is planning a dinner with three kinds of lasagna — with meat, vegetarian or vegan — costing $12 per adult or $6 for each child 12 or younger.

For dessert — or just for a snack — there will be free cake, added Cynthia Warne, manager of the market.

Also all afternoon, singer-guitarist Cole Gibson will play, providing a kind of warm-up for the Concert on the Pier.

The rest of the lineup of concerts, each of which will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

As in the past, food vendors will be available on the pier, or concert-goers can bring a picnic or pick up takeout at a nearby restaurant.

People are advised to bring chairs and blankets.

Smoking and alcohol are not permitted on the pier.

In addition to the PDN, season sponsors are KeyBank and the Elwha River Casino. Sunset Do-It Best Hardware also is a sponsor for the first half of the series.

Sequim concerts

In neighboring Sequim, the free Music and Movies in the Park will begin next week, with a weekly concert every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Jamestown Bandshell at the Water Reuse Demonstration Park just north of Carrie Blake Park.

On Tuesday, a performance by Locust Street Taxi will be followed by a showing of “Cats and Dogs — Revenge of Kitty Galore.”

Music and Movies in the Park runs with a music program each Tuesday night through the month of August.

Movies are featured the last Tuesday of the month.

In Port Townsend, Concerts on the Dock will begin Thursday, July 7, with a performance by The Better Half.

In plaza area

The free evening concerts will be in the newly renovated Pope Marine Park Plaza area with the City Dock as the background, according to Port Townsend Main Street which is putting on the shows along with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.

The concerts will be every Thursday through Aug. 25, Port Townsend Main Street says on its website at http://tinyurl.com/3lsr2ks.
