Clallam County to host meeting to develop animal disaster plan

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office’s Emergency Management division will host a meeting to kick off the development of an animal disaster plan at 5 p.m. Jan. 24.

The hybrid meeting will be in the county’s emergency operations center in the basement of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The public is welcome to attend.

A link to join the meeting online is posted at www.clallamcountywa.gov.

The animal disaster plan will outline procedures for managing both pets and livestock during disasters.

The plan will describe policies and procedures for evacuation, care and control of animals; it also will define roles and responsibilities of participating agencies and external partners.

The planning committee is made up of governmental agencies, animal rescue groups and other concerned individuals.

The meeting will include an orientation to the history, purpose and scope of the plan as well as goals for the planning committee.

At the end of the meeting, committee members will be identified and organized into subcommittees to work on the finer details of the plan.

Residents interested in joining can email Justine Chorley, the emergency management program coordinator, at justine.chorley@clallamcountywa.gov or sign up during the meeting.
