PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Commissioner Jim McEntire announced Tuesday that he was not selected to represent timber counties on the state Board of Natural Resources.
McEntire, a first-year county commissioner from Sequim and a former Port of Port Angeles commissioner, said he was notified by the Washington State Association of Counties that Lewis County Commissioner Lee Grose was chosen to replace the departing Jon Kaino on the influential board.
“I passed my personal congratulations on to him yesterday,” McEntire said.
“He will do a very fine job representing all of the timber counties on that body.”
The Board of Natural Resources sets policies that guide how the state Department of Natural Resources manages its lands and resources.
One of the reasons McEntire ran is because Clallam County has twice as much land subject to DNR jurisdiction than any other timber county.
Clallam County Commissioners Mike Doherty and Mike Chapman voted to endorse McEntire last week.
McEntire thanked his fellow commissioners for their support.
“It was very interesting and a good process to go through, and I just appreciate the opportunity,” he said.
In board action from Tuesday’s business meeting, commissioners:
■ Set a May 29 public hearing on a three-month extension on interim zoning controls for the Carlsborg urban growth area.
A Growth Management Act hearings board in 2008 found the urban growth area to be invalid and noncompliant with state law because it lacks a sewer.
Interim zoning controls restrict new development.
The county plans to build a Class A sewer and wastewater treatment facility in Carlsborg to eliminate groundwater pollution from old septic tanks and to lift interim zoning controls to allow businesses to expand.
■ Called for bids for the Undi Road repair project. The federally funded project will repair a slide area on the West End road that provides access to federal lands.
Bids are due by 10 a.m. June 5.
■ Gave notice of a June 5 hearing on proposed amendments to the Clallam County Park and Recreation Master Plan.
■ Appointed Christopher Clark to the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee.
■ Appointed David Carver and Patricia Svege to the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Committee.
■ Appointed Ronald Garcelon to the Permit Advisory Board.
