Intoxicated or drugged drivers in Clallam County can expect to pay hefty fees for the cost of their arrest.
Thanks to a newly instituted program among local emergency response agencies, people convicted of impaired driving could pay up to $1,000 for an officer’s time or a fire department’s response.
“Hopefully, this is going to be a deterrent for people drinking and drugging and driving,” said Jim Borte, project coordinator for the Clallam County DUI Task Force.
The cost recovery program is based on a 1993 state law that allows public emergency response agencies such as police and medics to seek restitution from any person found guilty of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
