Chics lunch reservations due Friday

SEQUIM — The deadline is Friday for mailing reservations for the fifth annual Chics Luncheon, a party scheduled Aug. 15.

The fundraiser, which will begin with check-in at 11:15 a.m. at Club Seven Lounge of the 7 Cedars Casino at 270756 U.S. Highway 101 in Blyn, benefits the Sequim Guild of Clallam County, which raises money for the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

The luncheon costs $16.50, and reservations must be postmarked by Friday, said Joy Miller of the Sequim Guild.

The luncheon has the theme of summertime fun, Miller said.

It is for people to relax, reminisce about their teen years, network with others and benefit teen patients being treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Miller said.

It is organized by former Sequim resident Lynne Rogers, who now lives in Arizona, said Miller, adding that Rogers has organized the event for the past five years.

Rogers encourages people to dress in period clothing from the 1950s and ’60s, and the music and menu will reflect that era.

Actress-singer Carol Swarbrick Dries will entertain the group.

The Happy Tymer Clowns also will perform.

Gifts welcome

Rogers encourages people to bring new gifts for teen patients at Seattle Children’s Hospital or donations, which will be used to provide uncompensated care for children in families unable to afford the patients’ share of the medical bill.

“Our gifts make a difference to people from this area,” Rogers said.

“In fact, last year, more than 750 children from Clallam County were patients at Seattle Children’s, and many of them received the benefit of uncompensated care.”

Gifts for teens may include new items such as nail polish kits; bath supplies (shower gels or lotions); journaling supplies; PG-13 newly released DVDs; gift cards for Fred Meyer, The Gap, iTunes, Target or Barnes and Noble; sports caps or shirts; and teen books.

Rogers promises a great party, Miller said, and invites women from all interests and backgrounds.

“You do not need to be a part of the Chics network to attend,” said Rogers, who started the Chics Internet networking group when she lived in Sequim.

“In fact, the list of over 200 people on the network is confidential, so many people who are Chics do not know each other,” Rogers added.

“I hope you will come if you are interested in networking or want to do something special for our community.”

To register, make a check out to Lydia Stanhope and send it to her at 12 Jesslyn Lane, Sequim, WA 98382.

For more information about the luncheon, phone Rogers at 360-461-3971 or Miller at 360-681-3073.

Despite a chilly rain, scores of people attended Sunday’s 120th anniversary celebration of the golf course, an event that included the unveiling of a banner with its new name: the Camas Prairie Park and Camas Prairie Golf Course. The park is designed to serve a more diverse group of users than in the past, said Bob Wheeler, Friends of the Port Townsend Golf Park president. He added that in addition to stick golf, disc golf, foot golf, a playground, trails and native planting areas are part of the plans. (Diane Urbani de la Paz/for Peninsula Daily News)
