CARLSBORG — Many of the Pacific Northwest’s top herders and handlers will compete this weekend during the first Wolston Farms Rainshadow Sheep Dog Trials near Carlsborg.
“We’re expecting as many as 40 dogs each day,” said Ian Caldicott, event coordinator for the competition scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Olympic Valley Farm.
Olympic Valley Farm is located on Kitchen-Dick Road, just south of Woodcock Road.
Caldicott said entries are expected from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.
“We even may have a couple of dogs here from California,” he said.
The dogs will be judged as they herd sheep through a series of obstacles in the open field of the 30-acre farm, which recently was purchased and resold by the Friends of the Field Foundation.
