Ballots for Aug. 5 primary election to be mailed today

Hospital commission, Port Angeles, Port Townsend city council races to be determined

Ballots for the Aug. 5 primary election will be mailed today.

In Clallam County, the ballot will include the race for Hospital District 2, commissioner position 7, between Laurie Force and Penney Sanders as well as two races for Port Angeles City Council.

Mic Sager has withdrawn from the hospital commissioner race but will still appear on the ballot.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Hall, James Taylor and LaTrisha Suggs will compete for Port Angeles City Council Position No. 7 while Ralph Davisson, Marloee “Mimi” Smith Dvorak and Kate Dexter are up for Port Angeles City Council Position No. 4.

A three-person race has shaped up for Port Angeles School District 121 Director Position No. 1 between Kim Butler, Ruth Replogle and Sarah Methner. Ned Hammer has withdrawn but will still appear on the ballot.

Finally, a levy lid lift issue is up for a vote in Clallam County Fire District 3.

“The Board of Clallam County Fire Protection District No. 3 adopted Resolution No. 2025-01 concerning a proposition to maintain and adequately fund district operations,” the sample ballot states. “This proposition would authorize the district to restore its regular property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for collection in 2026 and authorizes annual adjustments by the greater of the statutory rate or the annual CPI-U for Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue reported in June of the levy year for each of the five succeeding years. The maximum allowable levy in 2030 shall serve as the base for subsequent levy limitations as provided by Chapter 84.55 RCW. Should this proposition be approved?”

In Jefferson County, three candidates — Fred Obee, Mikki Porter and Dylan Quarles — have filed for Port Townsend City Council, Position 1.
