Audience clamors for news on clunkers

PORT ANGELES – Clallam County Community Development Director John H. Miller came to talk about shifting sands, but his audience wanted to hear about removing junk cars.

Accordingly, Miller junked his script and shifted his subject.

He spoke Tuesday at the weekly breakfast meeting of the Port Angeles Business Association at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive.

The proposed junk car ordinance that received a public hearing March 13 still is under consideration by county commissioners.

They probably won’t act on it for another one to three weeks.

Still, one member of the audience wanted to know what would be done about a collection of junkers on Mount Pleasant Road.

Miller said that county code compliance officer Rich Sill – the former undersheriff – and code enforcement field technician Tony Polizzi had found more pressing problems at the site.

First they got the owner to repair a hazardous wood stove and to solve a sanitation problem.

Now that the fire and public health threats are fixed, hauling off the automotive hulks can be addressed, Miller said.
