PORT TOWNSEND – Those hoping to put Radio Port Townsend on the air at 91.5 FM have finished their Federal Communications Commission application, a spokeswoman for the group said.
That application will be delivered to the broadcasting oversight agency on Friday, filed by the group’s attorney Michael Couzens, a legal expert on the FCC with offices in Washington, D.C., and Oakland, Calif.
Port Townsend resident Sherry Jones said that, along with the application, she and others are making final efforts to obtain $64,000 in pledges by the Friday deadline.
“We have pledges for $55,000 of the $64,000 goal, so we’re very close,” Jones said, adding that the final decision on the application was now in the FCC’s hands.
“If we get the license, we’ll have a party for everyone who contributed.”
While she said she was uncertain how soon the FCC would make its decision to accept or reject the application, she knows that within two weeks the group would know of any other applicants who have filed for the broadcast frequency.
