All Hazard Alert Broadcast sirens to sound today at noon

PORT ANGELES — Winchester Chimes will sound for 10 seconds at noon today during the monthly test of the six All Hazard Alert Broadcast Sirens (AHAB) in Clallam County.

The chimes will be followed by a voice message stating that the sounding of the sirens was only a test.

These tests take place on the first Monday of each month to verify the system’s capabilities to send timely warning notification to the coastal communities of Clallam, Jefferson, Pacific and Grays Harbor counties.

This test is a key component of Clallam County’s Tsunami Ready program.

Currently, the AHAB sirens to be tested are positioned in LaPush, Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Lower Elwha, East and West Port Angeles, Dungeness and Diamond Point.

Clallam County invites citizens who hear the siren test to call in information regarding the chimes, the voice announcement and where they were when they heard the test siren.

People can leave information Monday and Tuesday following the test siren with Clallam County Emergency Management by phoning 360-417-2525 or 360-417-2483.

Tsunami background information is available at the Clallam County website, www.clallam.net/EmergencyMgmt/html/links.htm.
