Second Saturday Garden Walk set in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Master Gardeners Jan Bartron, Bob Cain, Laurel Moulton and Audreen Williams will discuss how to protect ripening fruit and maturing vegetables during the monthly Second Saturday Garden Walk from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The free garden walk will be at the Port Angeles Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 E. Fifth St.

Guides also will point out that now is prime planting time for fall and discuss winter harvests. Participants can hear on-the-spot sharing of sustainable gardening practices by asking vegetable gardening questions.

The garden includes more than 50 individual plots that are each 9 feet by 12 feet. The garden was developed on city property in 2011 to connect people to the earth and their community through growing food.

The event is part of the Second Saturday Garden Walks, an educational series sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners that started in April and runs through Sept. 9.
