First Friday Art Walk in lavender hues

SEQUIM — The color theme for this month’s First Friday Art Walk is purple — the color of Sequim’s famous lavender blooms, which will be featured during the Sequim Lavender Weekend on July 21-23.

The art walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free, self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim the first Friday of every month. Visit SequimArtWalk.com to download and print a map and find special events and links.

Purple represents thoughtfulness, dignity, potential, camaraderie, supportive spiritual significance and impressive extravagance, according to art walk organizer Renne Emiko Brock, who encourages visitors to dress in shades of purple as they go out on the town.

Special events

• La Petite Maison Blanc, 213 E. Washington St., has joined the Sequim Art Walk. The venue features “Paintings of the Peninsula” by W. Jason Situ.

During the art walk, visitors can stroll a little farther to La Petite Maison Blanc, which will offer a special on pantry items and have free samples available all over the store.

• The A. Milligan Art Studio and Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., will offer refreshments along with an exhibit of featured local artist, Lauren Blair Churchill.

Her exhibit at the gallery shows her fanciful abstracts through the years to the present.

A lifelong artist, Churchill is experienced in a variety of mediums. She earned her visual arts degree in 1989 from Eastern Connecticut State University. In 2020, she moved to Sequim from Connecticut, where she was an active member in a host of local artist organizations.

Staying true to form, she is currently an active member in various art communities and organizations and serves locally on the board of the OPAA.

• Sequim Museum & Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave., is hosting “A Photographic Journey,” which is a new Olympic Peaks Camera Club exhibition of different photographs from their June showing in the Judith McInnes Tozzer Art Gallery.

The exhibit will run to July 29. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday.

Participating members include Suzanne Anaya, Lewis Bennett, Marian Bodart, Sherrie Cerutti, Bruce Fryxell, Rebecca Hanson, Judy Larimore, Dana Martell, Daniel McKenna, Witta Priester, Stephen Shoff, Mary Swartz, Kevin Talbot and Susan White.

• Locally Known Cowork, 112 W. Washington St., features artist Emma Gockerell. A local face painter, artist, mother of four and veteran, Gockerell said she enjoys pointillism and “adding every dot by hand in every piece of artwork I create. Happy to be local in Sequim.”

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., has “Creativity Comes in Many Forms,” an art exhibit featuring artists Carol Janda, whose works include watercolors, oils and clay, and Marilynn Hiestand, whose works include silk art, watercolor, collage and fiber art.

• Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery, the City of Sequim Arts Advisory Commission hosts the opening reception of “Music; The Art of Arranging Sound.” The exhibit offers nine pieces by eight artists and will be on exhibit through Sept. 25.

Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also at the Civic Center is the First Friday Open Music Jam from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring an acoustic instrument and/or voice and join the group for an informal gathering of people who like to make music. Chairs will be provided.

• Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Sequim Habitat Boutique Store, 213 E. Washington St., will offer live music with OG from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• Rainshadow Café, 157 W. Cedar St. will offer live music with Dawn & Steve from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Singing and dancing encouraged.

• Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., offers glass, pottery, illustration and photography of local artists along with tea blends, teapots and cups and culinary gifts.

• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will provide wine and appetizers with local art and live music.

• Soup in the Alley, 138 W. Washington St., features a rotation of local artists, live music and treats.

• Pacific Mist Books, 122 W. Washington St., offers a mix of new and vintage books, cards and gifts including local authors and artists.

• Hattie art pop-up, 112 W. Washington St., where former CBS News correspondent Hattie Kauffman will unveil her oil paintings at Sequim’s Art Walk between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
