Mother, daughter yoga class slated

PORT TOWNSEND — Mothers and their daughters ages 9 to 13 are invited to a special yoga class, “Bright Moon Yoga for Mothers and Maidens,” on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Room to Move studio.

Yoga teacher and dancer Jen Bates is giving the workshop; she emphasizes that women and girls of all abilities are welcome.

She’ll guide participants through individual and partner yoga poses, contact improvisation dance and theater games from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and give moms and girls poses to take home, too.

“I’m very excited about this workshop. It’s the kind of teaching that really feeds my soul,” said Bates, who is also a sculptor and journeyman sailmaker.

The class offers a chance to “enrich your connection to each other during the powerful time of the full moon,” she added.

“I’ll be touching on yoga, but more important, I want to gently emphasize contact improvisation dance and theater improvisation games as a way of exploring nonverbal connections and boundaries between mothers and their preteen daughters.”

Tea and treats will be served at the close of the class at Room to Move, which is upstairs at 1008 Lawrence St.

The cost is $25 per mother-daughter pair, while scholarships are available.

Advance registration is necessary. To learn more about the workshop and other classes at the uptown studio, visit www.RoomtoMoveYoga.com or phone 360-379-1710.
