LETTER:Towne Road

I am writing to express my deep concern about the costs associated with the Towne Road paving project.

While I recognize the importance of maintaining and improving our infrastructure, the cost associated with the road is excessive and only benefits a small number of the community.

The proposed cost to pave this 0.6 miles of road is $2.7 million. That is $4.5 million per mile.

This is outrageous.

This project directly benefits less than 200 people. Which equates to more than $135,000 per person.

This project is not in the best interest of the community as a whole, but rather benefits a small special interest group.

Are we allocating funds wisely?

While road improvements are necessary, we must prioritize projects based on urgency and long-term benefits.

Let’s focus on critical routes rather than pursuing this project benefiting a small number of homeowners.

Our senior citizens, many of whom live on fixed incomes, bear the brunt of rising property taxes.

The cost of living continues to increase, and additional financial burdens from road construction projects exacerbate their challenges.

We must consider their well-being when making funding decisions.

In conclusion, I urge our local authorities to reevaluate the paving of Towne Road.

Let’s explore how these funds could be used to maintain and improve existing roads, and ensure that our investments yield lasting benefits.

Our county’s financial health depends on responsible decision-making.
