LETTER:Miller a public servant

I joined the Overdose Awareness march and rallies Aug. 31 at the Clallam County Courthouse and at Port Angeles City Pier and heard Amy Miller deliver her eloquent plea for all of us to work to save lives and heal people addicted to opioids.

Ms. Miller told the 200 people in that crowd that she was celebrating her 40th birthday, that 20 years earlier she herself suffered an overdose.

Yet she struggled to take back her life, broke free, earned her college degree and has worked ever since to help others crushed down by addiction and hard luck.

She could not have done it alone, she stressed.

She had family, friends, an entire community helping her.

What is that old African saying?

“It takes an entire village to raise a child.”

I too had a chance to speak for my group, Voices for Health & Healing.

“Aren’t we lucky to have Amy Miller serving on the Port Angeles City Council,” I said.

“She is running for reelection and I hope she wins in November.”

I received strong applause.

That crowd loves Amy Miller.

She is the leader of the movement that has saved many lives in Clallam County.

She is a public servant serving you and me.

We need her in high office.

If you are not registered to vote do it now.

When your mail ballot arrives, fill it out and mail it back.

Mark it to elect Amy Miller.
