LETTER:Mass shootings

In the “Speaking Out” segment (PDN, April 29), people were asked to comment on the assault weapon ban in Washington.

One reader stated that “It’s a terrible idea… and we haven’t had any mass shootings.”

This is wrong.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, which is a non-profit organization that uses more than 7,500 government and non-government sources to collect and publish data on gun violence in the United States, there were 31 mass shootings in Washington state from 2015 to 2021.

During those seven years, 53 people were killed.
