LETTER:Honor Teterud

For the last two Sequim School District Board meetings, I have listened as members of our community asked the board to consider naming the athletic field after Myron Teterud, aka Mr. Sequim.

It made me think back to all the football games we worked together in all kinds of weather.

Myron was hard to understand at times but you knew one thing.

He bled purple and gold.

This man went to as many games and sporting events that he could. Home or away.

He was always proud of our athletes and boasted about their success.

If we lost, he knew we would get them next time.

Myron was not an athlete but he had the heart of one.

He showed up, rooted for you and you knew no matter what, you could count on him.

Those who missed it when Myron was at his last football game before passing away, missed seeing what I and others saw.

His body was frail, his speech had worsen and he was in a wheelchair.

Yet his heart was beating strong and he had that old look in his eyes.

Forget that it was freezing out, he was back to cheer on his team.

He was alive again and where he belonged.

We must do something to honor this man.
