LETTER:Backs Smith

I was glad to see the PDN coverage of the League of Women’s Voters’ candidate forum for the District 2 county commissioner position.

I believe both the forum and the article made it clear that while both candidates are well vested in this community and have many things to commend them, Lorna Smith has the wider ranging skill set that would allow quality representation from the first day.

Uniting the will of many communities with public and fiscal policies that do not shatter the financial stability of the households she represents is tricky.

It requires a sophisticated knowledge of the complex systems of public and private entities that need to be navigated in order for the community’s interests to be fully served.

We simply don’t have the luxury of time for the learning curve that Eisenhour would require to, as she has put it, “find out who to talk to.”

I have become discouraged of late that some of Eisenhour’s supporters have moved to vague and unfounded suggestions that are intended to malign Smith’s character, rather than engage in reasoned discussion of their candidate’s qualifications.

I don’t need to impugn Eisenhour’s character in order to support Smith and explain why I support her; indeed, there is no need to as Eisenhour’s character is above reproach, as is that of Lorna Smith.

Both candidates do this area proud.

I wish I could say the same for some of Eisenhour’s constituents.

Let’s just elect the best candidate.

For me, that’s clearly Lorna Smith.
