LETTER: Vote for levy

Port Angeles voters should vote “yes” for our schools.

There used to be five elementary schools.

We cut that down to four.

There used to be two middle schools.

That was changed to just one middle school, bringing a lot more students to the already aging Stevens Middle School.

The sixth graders were moved to the elementary schools.

Right now the elementary schools are bursting at the seams.

We couldn’t cut down the class sizes, if we wanted to.

There is almost no room for more classes.

Anyone who has young children at the elementary schools would probably tell you that sixth graders do not belong in the same schools as our K-5 grades.

I did not vote for the high school proposal before and I do not want my property taxes raised unless it is vital to our community.

I have studied the new proposal and I do believe the time is right to invest in this proposal.

The current proposal very strategically remodels Stevens Middle School, while keeping our students on the same location.

People talk about what happened to the need to rebuild a high school right now because of the bad condition it was in.

The School District’s maintenance department has been vigorously fixing the leaking roofs and other problems at the high school in order to prolong the life of the school.

Please vote to support our kids, their well being and the staff.
