LETTER: Supports the MAT clinic in Sequim

Am I the only resident of Sequim in favor of the proposed opioid treatment center?

Signs against it dot the landscape, especially around the homes of our wealthiest residents.

What are the reasons for the opposition?

Are people afraid of declining property values?

Do they think a clinic will bring bad actors into the area?

The PDN reported in July that Clallam County recorded the state’s highest use of opioids, totaling 37,838,060 pain pills for the area.

The greatest risk to our residents is that many locals who are strung out on opioids aren’t telling anyone.

This includes many of our senior citizens, too.

Are we to kill off any chances they can get much-needed treatment to save their lives, or would we rather keep them driving intoxicated on our roads and highways?

What isn’t being said at all is that treatment for these kinds of addictions have a 75 percent to 80 percent recovery rate within five years.

Isn’t it time to stop worrying about yourselves and your money and help the troubled people in Sequim receive the grace of God?
