In the past few months our local papers have reported the numerous changes in the Sequim School District administration.
Among the changes are an interim superintendent, new principal and vice principal at the middle school plus a change in vice principal at the high school.
This election will determine the future course for the schools and the district’s involvement with the community.
Currently, the district is being managed by an interim superintendent.
Decisions made during the transition period between the interim and the new superintendent will require dedicated leadership and commitment.
The process of selecting the new superintendent must be the top priority for the board.
Jim Stoffer has served on the school board for the past four years as well as being the Sequim Legislative Representative for the Washington State School Directors Association.
He has met with directors from other school districts exchanging ideas about a variety of concerns such as school safety, curriculum, staffing and technology to name just a few.
I have had discussions with Stoffer about the importance of selecting a new superintendent, adequate school staffing, school safety and the importance of community involvement with the schools.
As retired Coast Guard, his four years serving Sequim School Board and WSSDA I am confident he brings leadership and commitment at a crucial time for our students, staff and community.
