LETTER: Save cats

During difficult times like now, thinking of ways we can make a positive difference helps.

October is a “purrfect” month to remember the many cats in need around us and those working hard to help them.

Since Oct. 16 is Global Cat Day and Oct. 29 is National Cat Day, now is a good time to take action.

Many low cost/spay neuter clinics had to close for several months and are still only operating on a smaller number of cats than normal because of coronavirus safety restrictions.

Cats need our help more than ever.

Rescues and shelters need our support to keep up with spay/neuter surgeries and caring for unwanted cats needing a home.

Global Cat Day Oct. 16 raises awareness of how important trap, neuter and return is by humanely reducing the number of cats abandoned, homeless and forced to survive on their own.

National Cat Day Oct. 29 shines a light on saving cats by adopting from rescue groups and shelters.

Four million cats are estimated to enter the shelter systems annually with 1-2 million still being euthanized.

This sad statistic shows we have to stay vigilant in our work towards a no-kill nation.

Focusing on spaying, neutering and adoption will get us there.

Please support our local groups working to save cats: Spay to Save, Peninsula Friends of Animals, Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, Center Valley Animal Rescue and Olympic Mountain Pet Pals

Thank you for making a “pawsitive” difference for cats in need.
