My wife and I attended the Sequim Irrigation Festival Parade on Saturday, May 13.
It was very nice and it didn’t rain, but — and this is a big but — there was no color guard at the beginning of the parade.
Indeed, there was no designated colors presentation at all until about halfway through the parade when some Boy Scouts, with shirts half out and carrying our colors and a Washington state flag, ambled by.
I noticed that no seated persons stood, nor did any caps (other than mine) come off.
In my opinion, there is a sad lack of discipline and the observance of tradition afoot in this country today.
I believe we accept and ignore that at our peril.
