LETTER: Port Angeles City Council candidate Carr impresses

My husband, Dr. Jim Mantooth, and I got acquainted with Navarra Carr through her job at North Olympic Land Trust. When we found out she is running for Port Angeles City Council, we learned more about her through her website and were favorably impressed.

We like her pledge to be an advocate for equity, fiscal responsibility and a sustainable community that benefits all Port Angeles residents.

We like her balance between dreaming big and being cautious about creating burdens for local taxpayers.

We like her background of growing up in a small town in Northern California and studying ethics, politics, law and philosophy at Sacramento State University.

We like her emphasis on thinking critically and deeply about issues and “engaging in discussions with folks from all walks of life.”

We like her work experiences that include teaching at an elementary school, creating and maintaining programs at a homeless services nonprofit, and developing and implementing programs to provide housing and reduce food insecurity.

We like her deep appreciation for Port Angeles — from its natural surroundings to its city life with local restaurants, theater productions, the farmer’s market and live music.

We like her ambitions of attracting more business ventures to downtown Port Angeles and helping it become more vibrant.

We hope you will visit www.navarracarr.com so you too can evaluate her qualifications for Port Angeles City Council.
