LETTER: Parking problems

Who knew parking in Port Angeles was such a breeze?

Forget those pesky red curbs, they’re just suggestions, apparently.

My neighbor’s guests have mastered the art of parking wherever they please, turning our quiet Chambers Street into a free-for-all parking lot.

I naively thought parking laws were enforced. How silly of me.

After multiple calls to our diligent police force, I’ve learned that red zones are fair game unless there’s a fire hydrant or crosswalk nearby. A 72-hour warning is the harshest punishment for blatantly illegal parking.

It’s comforting to know our law enforcement is so relaxed. Perhaps we should all embrace this newfound parking freedom.

Why bother with parking meters or time limits? Let’s park on sidewalks, in front of driveways or even in the middle of the road. After all, if there’s no immediate consequence, is it really wrong?

I propose we rename Port Angeles to “Park Anywhere-les.” It seems fitting, given our city’s apparent disregard for parking regulations.

Who needs order when chaos is so much more exciting? In all seriousness, this lack of enforcement is frustrating and potentially dangerous.

It’s time for our city to take parking violations seriously before the situation spirals further out of control.
