LETTER: OMC’s options

The Olympic Medical Center (OMC) board shared that it was, for financial reasons, investigating partnership options with other medical entities (PDN, Dec. 6). The list included “faith-based systems.”

Since OMC joined with Swedish Providence healthcare, a Catholic-controlled system, to provide its patients with MyChart medical records, I have been very worried that this was the first step in joining OMC eventually with this faith-based system.

Should this happen, OMC patients will lose access to end-of-life care, women’s reproductive care, IVF and contraception resources. All of these services are forbidden by Providence’s religious leaders.

Our excellent OMC system was created with public funds.

The OMC board should make every effort to explore partnerships with other secular medical systems such as the University of Washington Medical Center or the Jefferson County health system.

Join me in making our voices heard at the next OMC board meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Linkletter Hall, 939 Caroline St. in Port Angeles, or join online at www.olympicmedical.org/about-us/board-of-commissioners.
