LETTER: Military parade idea hopefully shelved

Well, it’s been a few days since I’ve heard much about this big military parade the president is so intent on (having so enjoyed the one he attended in France), according to media reports.

While I hope that means cooler heads have prevailed and the idea has been quietly shelved, it’s more likely it’s just been pushed out of the headlines by the daily news fodder continually pouring from this dysfunctional White House.

We’ve been told for months on end how underfunded our military is, so surely the people in charge of it aren’t eager to use any part of their precious budget (and we’re talking millions here) to fund the president’s whimsy.

My dad was a World War II vet, my husband is a Vietnam vet and our son is a veteran of the First Gulf War, and I can assure you none of them would want to see a single penny of our tax dollars spent on such a spectacle.

If Mr. Trump wants to see a parade honoring our military, all he needs to do is go to any of the towns and cities all across America that hold one every Independence Day.

Of course we’d have to pay for his trip — but it would be cheaper than paying for his big parade (and perhaps he could show his patriotism by foregoing one of his Mar-A-Lago weekends — which we’re also paying for).
